A class from start to finish
How a class runs
The first five minutes are the same every time, so a new student always knows what comes next.
- 01
Step 1: Line up and bow in
Students line up by belt color, bow to the instructor and to each other, and start together.
- 02
Step 2: Warm up and stretch
A few minutes of moving and stretching, led from the front, so everyone is ready to kick.
- 03
Step 3: Stances, kicks and forms
The group works on the day's kicks and then on its form, a set pattern done in a line.
- 04
Step 4: Drills with a partner
Kicks and blocks on pads and shields, slowly at first. Sparring is for older groups, in gear, with light contact.
- 05
Step 5: Bow out
The class ends the way it began. Parents and families wait on the bench by the window.
