Questions

What families ask first

How old does a student have to be?

Students can join from age 5. First belts is for ages 5 to 7, the kids' class for ages 8 to 12, and teens and adults train together. A student's age sets their group, and their belt sets their place in it.

Can I watch a class?

Yes. Parents and family can watch any class from the bench by the window. We ask for quiet during belt tests, no flash photos, and that younger brothers and sisters stay with an adult.

What do I wear to a first class?

A plain t-shirt and loose trousers are fine, and we lend a uniform for that visit. No jewelry, hair tied back, nails short and shoes off at the mat.

What is a class like?

Students line up by belt, bow in and warm up. Then they work on stances and kicks, a form, and partner drills with pads. Classes end with a bow out. Sparring starts with light contact in gear, and only in the classes for older students.

Can parents and children train together?

On Fridays, yes: the family class has a parent and a child, or two brothers and sisters, on the mat together. The other classes are split by age.

Do I need to be fit or flexible?

No. Every fitness level starts here, and stretching is part of every warm-up.

How do belts work?

Colors run from white to black. A student tests when the instructor sees the skills, and stripes on the belt show what has been checked off so far. No time is promised, because every student moves at their own pace.

How does tuition work?

What sets it, how a place is held, how billing works and what extras exist are written out on the tuition page. Our figures are on the enrollment page and we go through them at your first class.

How do I stop, and what if we move?

Enrollment runs month to month. To stop, tell us in writing before the next billing date; the month in progress is billed as usual. If your family is on a posting, tell us when you expect to leave and we can talk about a pause or a short stay.

What happens if we miss a class?

A missed class can be made up in another class for the same age group during the same session. Tell the front desk ahead and we will find one that fits.

Still have a question?

Call the front desk or send a message, and we will get back to you.
