Stripes and tests
How a student moves up

Stripes
A stripe of tape goes on the belt each time the instructor checks off a set of skills. Stripes are how a student and their family see progress between tests.

Belt tests
A test happens in the student's own class time, and families watch quietly from the bench. A student tests when the instructor says they are ready, not at a set date.

Where a new student starts
Everyone starts at white belt, whatever their age. A student who has trained before is placed after a first class, and we ask them to bring a note of their belt.

See it on the mat
A first class is the quickest way to see how belts and stripes work.
